Welcome to Mount Tamar School

I am delighted to welcome you to our school. Mount Tamar has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with about 100 pupils on roll from many different Local Authorities in the South West.

The school caters for young people aged 4 to 16 years who, for a variety of reasons, find it difficult to be successful within mainstream schools as full-time pupils. We specialise in supporting students with social and emotional difficulties, attachment and autism. The school manages a number of satellite ‘Aspire’ centres across Plymouth to meet individual student’s academic and social needs. We also have a thriving residential area that caters for up to 15 students. We strive to provide the very best educational experience so that all our students can reach their full potential, as they become responsible and proactive members of the community.

The partnership with parents, carers and the wider community is critical in developing all of our young people’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual qualities and we are uncompromising in our pursuit of the best for all.

We aim to make education real, interesting, relevant and practical. Through an ethos of learning outside the classroom, outdoor education and forest schools, we seek to develop social and emotional aspects of learning. Making the right choice of school is one of the most difficult decisions. I hope that this prospectus, our website and a visit to the school will lead you to seek with us a true partnership in learning for your child.
