The Edison Centre is an alternative placement for children from Foundation Stage to Year 6 with intensive provision meeting specific targets, enabling children to succeed in mainstream education. Children learn through a thematic and trauma informed approach centred around music and STEM.

We will provide a package of specialist support for child and family. There will be collaborative work between us and the child’s setting to ensure smooth transition and progress towards positive targets. We can offer a comfortable space with a classroom, break/lunch room, therapeutic play room, STEM lab, outside area (with animals), all of which are screen-free nurturing environments for our learners.

The Edison Centre as part of Discovery Multi Academy Trust is now recognised as a Mentally Healthy Organisation by The Centre for Child Mental Health and Trauma Informed Schools UK.

About Edison

Visits

We organise visits from outside agencies such as Discovery Bugs, Plymouth Music Zone, Plymouth Parkour, Food is Fun, Police and Fire Service. This provides our learners with positive and rewarding experiences they can really engage with.

Small Therapeutic Interventions

We share breakfast and lunch together and play circle time activities throughout.
100% of children attending Edison have seen an improvement in their moral and spiritual understanding, and social skills.

Food is Fun

We will be working with 'Food is Fun' to deliver workshops to our pupils and families to provide them with a variety of culinary learning experiences which encompass placements into reintegration.

Food Workshop

Plymouth Parkour

The two founders of Plymouth Parkour, Karol Zalewski and Maciej Bolbot, visit Edison up to x2 a week to deliver sessions and training to our pupils.

Our children learn how to balance, be patient, be still and use their bodies in a range of ways to make this form of physical adventure safe and exciting!

Highly Trained Staff

All the Edison Staff are trained in emotional logic, trauma informed practice, pivotal MAPA de-escalation & physical intervention, therapeutic play, Lego therapy and ADHD & ASC learning. All staff have an informed and sensitive approach to learning and teaching.

STEM Based Topics

The children enjoy the practical experiments in science.
In our 'All About Me' topic, they loved making a digestive system and poo!
We offer a range of science, technology, music and social skill based activities.

University Research

We receive visits from the University of Plymouth Research Fellows who are looking into exploring outdoor learning.
They focus on children's development through our outdoor continuous provision & STEM activities.
