Our Vision and Values
Discovery MAT is a multi academy trust with the express aim of supporting the academies for which it acts. We currently support three primary academies across the Plymouth area.
We were set up in September 2016 between Beechwood Primary Academy, Oakwood Primary Academy and Weston Mill Community Primary Academy.
The Trust has a Local Advisory Board, which is responsible for teaching and learning in all the Trust organisations, providing support and challenge. The Trust has a separate Board of Trustees, which is responsible for the strategic management of the Trust. A key part of the Trust is its desire to work with our local communities which we serve.
Our academies have already worked together on a number of projects developing children's learning and staff training, and this will increase in the future. We are also excited to have recently announced our intention to become a STEM Centre of Excellence for primary education in the City of Plymouth, with a number of exciting projects in the pipeline.
Discovery MAT was recently the first educational group in the country to be awarded the 'Mentally Healthy Organisation Award' by Trauma Informed Schools UK (TISUK) and not-for-profit The Centre for Child Mental Health (CCMH). The approach has transformed our culture and is a result of the hard work of our dedicated team. As a result, we have seen an improvement in the well-being of staff and children, and this has been a key strategy for facilitating school improvement. As a Trust we believe in the importance of recognising the emotional health of our school communities and we look forward to this ongoing development in the future. Receiving this award continues to validate our approach and we are extremely proud to be recognised as a Mentally Healthy Organisation.
